My one daughter who is currently in grade one loves math pages so we were very excited to review the Multiplication Starter Kit that Page A Day Math has available! The kit is filled with 12 different math workbooks for the students to work through. They progressively get more difficult as the student learns the math skill, in our case multiplication. The books are filled with colourful illustrations of the fun dog characters. My daughter was a huge fan of the dogs and how “pretty” the books are. We got the PDF downloadable file of the books which I would highly recommend as you can have it anywhere you go and you are able to use it for more than one student.
What is inside the books?
The books are filled with math problems. You are supposed to do one page a day, front and back, five days a week. This will help your child grow their math skill at the proper rate so that they are able to retain what they are learning. You start by learning the new math problem, you then trace the problem, and then you trace all of the problems and answer them. I think this method really worked for my daughter as she was learning even as she was tracing out the questions. At the end of the pages for the day the student gets to colour the stars at the bottom of the page, we like to use little star stickers here as it adds another fun aspect to the sheets. At the end of each book, there is also a certificate page for the student!
What My child Has to say. (Age 6 – Grade 1)
“I like the pages but I don’t like tracing all of the questions. I love the dog, they are cute!”
I would recommend using this in combination with another math program as my daughter found that just doing these pages was not enough to satisfy her math cravings. It was however a great way to introduce multiplication to her. I think that we will also use the division kit once we are ready to introduce that to her.
Who Would This Be Good For?
Page A Day Math has math curriculum for pre-K beginner math as well as, beginner addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They also have a printing curriculum that teaches printing and cursive. I think that this would be good for all children in the lower elementary grade levels.
Math can be a hard subject to teach but with Page A Day Math kids are introduced to math in a fun and relatable way. They are able to see that you need math for many different things through the characters in the books. It also very easy to teach and everything is all in one book. This is a great beginner math choice.
