I want to tell you a story about a Christmas that has past.
A story of the most magical Christmas for a little girl and her family.
One year, despite hard work and saving there was a family that found themselves with very little at Christmas. With three young children, all excited for the magical day, the mother began to worry that Christmas would be very different that year. There was no way they would be able to afford to get gifts for their children. She didn’t want to see her children without anything Christmas morning though. So, she put aside her pride for the sake of her children and asked for help from the local food bank.
What happened next was truly amazing and can only be explained by the kindness of others and Christmas magic!
A couple of days before Christmas the children had gathered in the living room when they heard the sounds of a firetruck honking! They all raced to the window to see what the commotion was about. To their surprise, Santa was standing on top of the firetruck with gifts in his arms and people all around. Santa had come to save their Christmas. The volunteers handed out toys and food by the handfuls. Everyone was hugging, laughing and smiling as they watched the children take turns on Santas lap! The magic of Christmas was in the air all around them.
That Christmas the kindness of a few amazing people at the Firehall saved the Christmas of a family that had lost hope. They all rallied together to bring in donations of gifts and food to give the family an amazing Christmas day. Everyone who came was so kind and never looked at the family like they were anything less because they needed help. They just showed true unconditional love!

This story is the story of my most memorable Christmas, not because it was grand or expensive, but because it was filled with love. It was my mother who loved her children so much that bravely asked for help and did everything she could to make our Christmas magical. It was the love of everyone who took the time and money to donate something that year. It was the love of the Firefighters who came and delivered the gifts. This one Christmas was filled with so much love that it has seeped into every single Christmas season I have had since.
I am so thankful for this Christmas experience, even though I can imagine how hard it was for my mom. I am now able to relate to those who are needing help during the holidays. It gave me the ability to look at situations differently, to have empathy and compassion for others. I am able to understand how much of a difference kindness can make in someone’s life. And now, every year I try to pass that along by adding a little magic to someone else’s Christmas.
That year I learned that Christmas wasn’t really about the gifts or the traditions,
Christmas was about love!
A story that happens to so many and while reading or hearing about them one never expects to know them. As a little girl in a family with no money, but love, God already had you in his care by providing the hearts of community members to make a Christmas dream come true and flood your home with love. Beautiful sharing.
Yes, it is amazing to look back at one’s life and see how His plan worked out! ❤️
